- Dog Bite Prevention Program
The Dog Bite Prevention Program teaches children and adults safety skills around animals (dogs in particular) in order to reduce the number of dog bites occurring every day! Through education and awareness, we can reduce the number of animals being euthanized because of biting. The focus of this presentation deals with the feelings of animals, what they may be thinking and what they are trying to communicate to us. The program teaches empathy and understanding and can be adapted for grades K – 6. The presentation consists of videos, activities, role-playing, crafts and more! - Choosing a Pet
Choosing an appropriate pet involves research, education and awareness of the needs of various companion animals. This presentation assists in answering questions such as "What pet is a good choice for me, my family, my home, my lifestyle?" If better choices are made, fewer animals may be surrendered to animal shelters or abandoned. The presentation can be adapted for grades K – 6 and includes videos, activities, and interaction. - Pet Responsibility and Care
This presentation looks at choosing the best pet for you and your family as well as the care and attention he or she will require. Once we have made our choice of a pet, then we have promised to care for this family member for its lifespan. It looks at such questions as "What does my pet need from me?”, "How do I look after him/her properly?", "Why does he need to go the 'Veterinarian?'", "What about grooming?", "How do I be a responsible pet owner?" and many more issues. The presentation includes videos, activities and handouts and can be adapted for grades K - 6. - Pet Overpopulation
For every human being born, 15 dogs and 45 cats are born. There is definitely a pet population problem. This presentation creates awareness about pet overpopulation and the need to spay and neuter our pets. The presentation consists of videos, activities and handouts and is suitable for grades 4 and up. - Red Deer & District SPCA Facility Presentation
Last year, the Red Deer & District SPCA took in 1191 companion animals. This presentation provides students with an overview of the life of our guest pets and the roles of the SPCA staff. Consisting of videos, activities, role-playing and handouts, this presentation is suitable for grades 4 and up. - Additional Human Education Programs are available to suit all ages and can be adapted to meet many curriculum requirements.
